Baru Tahu IDX

Today, I got a new experience. Because I was going to attend a stock exchange simulation held by student association of management. As usual, I cropped up to be a late comer, what I did was not wrong, because it could be estimated and predicted that being late was the characteristics of FEB Unair students’ events. Without considering whether to conduct an event at regional, national or even international level. Being late can’t be ignored. It’s deeply suitable. Being on time is a something “never to see”. A miracle. Hopefully it could be eradicated immediately.

My decision was correct. Extremely correct. Although I came late more than an hour but the workshop was still not begun yet. How boring I was if I came on scheduled time. Waiting for the kick-off the event . oh No. Previously, I was almost misleaded to search the venue. Even though I myself was born and live in surabaya, but till now I can’t fully memorize the streets and places in surabaya well. My friends from oustside of this city often know more than me. Hehe. Because of that, if I want to go to the new places in Surabaya, it’s better for me to ask my friend(s) to accompany, otherwise, it will be time-consuming for me to explore the adress searched. I looked for the IDX building. The committee said that it’s close to the police office in TP mall. Well, I rode my motorcycle as saw right and left sides whether I found the place, yeah, I found it. But, I overpassed, because the distance was not rather far away, I thought it’s better not to take on motorcycle and just walked on the shoulder of the road, it’s for about one hundred meters. I came, I put my motorcycle into the parking area. Preparing myself, and I entered the arena.

The first session began, it’s about the overview, role, benefit etc regarding indonesia stock exchange. According to me, this kind of topic was very familiar because as a business student I have already got it from the subject taught by my lecturers. But, it’s rather different, it’s because the explanation came from the practicians that usually know more about the practical matters. While in campus, I got it from academicians/lecturers.

The brand-new experience I really got was at the second session. It’s about the mechanism of stock trading in IDX itself. I usually knew it from the book. As usual, accounting textbook in FEB adopted the book from USA or Europe. Sometimes, accounting students know more about SEC and The FED in USA rather than BAPEPAM-LK and BI in their home country. It’s ironic I think, but, that’s the reality, without providing an extra effort to study about financial institutions in Indonesia themselves, students will know nothing about it.

And then continued to the next topic, that was the time for IDX game simulation. Really a brand-new thing for me. We (Akbar and I) were bestowed e-money as initial capital as big as 1.5 billion IDR and seven kinds of stocks having 50 lots respectively. Okay, the game was kicked off, Akbar acted as an executor while I was as recorder of transaction (I didn’t believe in akbar to record it, hehe). First session of trading was very active. Many bids and offers colored the securities infos. This session was finished and closed after the transaction in market ran for thirty minutes, and my team got the fourth place. Wow, awesome, while we did it arbitrarily.

Continued to the second session as the last one. We would fight to raise the rating so that we could achieve higher position. How can? Of course by increasing the amount of Return on Investment (ROI). But, what a pity, the second session was not crowded as the previous one, more empty. The trading was less active. We still tried to be vigilant to the movement of stock. But, everyone was getting more conservative than before. As the consequences, when it’s closed, and then the committee announced the top trader of the game. As I predicted, our position didn’t change. Still, being comfortable at fourth place. Oh God. It’s fine. It didn’t matter, sweet moment for the first experience. And I think I have insufficient talent for this field. There is no intention for me to be a broker in capital market someday. Writing paper is more interesting and profitable. How exciting to write a paper is. Ya Allah, Robbi zidni ‘ilma warzuqni fahma.
